Gulfstar 41 Ketch
Description
The Gulfstar 41 Ketch is a classic American cruising sailboat designed by Vince Lazzara and built by Gulfstar Yachts in St. Petersburg, Florida, between 1973 and 1978. It represents one of Gulfstar’s most successful early bluewater designs—robust, handsome, and comfortable enough for long‑range cruising or liveaboard life. Lazzara, already known for founding Columbia Yachts, developed the Gulfstar 41 as a blend of solid offshore capability and luxurious fit‑out, using fiberglass construction to keep maintenance low while providing a yacht‑like interior rarely found in production boats of the day. The hull is a moderate‑displacement, long‑fin design with a skeg‑hung rudder, giving the boat reliable tracking and a gentle motion at sea. Most examples were ketch‑rigged, though a few sloops were built; the ketch configuration divides sail area for easier handling and excellent balance.
