Grampian Classic 22
Description
The Grampian Classic 22 (also known as Classic 22, Grampian 22, or simply Grampian Classic) is a classic Canadian trailerable pocket cruiser/racer designed by George Harding Cuthbertson of Cuthbertson & Cassian (C&C Design) and built by Grampian Marine Ltd. in Canada starting in 1962. It was initially marketed as the Classic 22, later rebranded as the Grampian Classic 22 and Grampian 22 (with slight lightening in some versions), and production continued until around 1971 (out of production now). The design saw modest production numbers (likely in the low hundreds), and similar hulls appeared under other names like Viking 22, Bluejacket 23, or Gazelle 22 from Ontario Yachts due to shared molds or influences. It gained popularity for its fun, responsive performance as a daysailer, racer, and overnighter—featuring a fin keel with spade rudder for good handling, lightweight fiberglass construction, trailerability, and a compact yet functional interior (V-berth forward, settees, berths for 2–4, minimal galley/heads, and sitting headroom around 3' 6"–4'). It's praised for its solid build, stability, and lively sailing in moderate conditions, though limited by small size for longer cruises.
