Description
The Grampian 28, designed by Alex McGruer and built by Grampian Marine in Canada from 1974 to 1978 with approximately 150 hulls produced, is a sturdy 28-foot cruiser featuring a 9.5-foot beam, 23.0-foot waterline, and a 5.25-foot fin keel carrying 3,200 pounds of lead ballast in a moderate 8,200-pound displacement for balanced stability, a comfort ratio of 23–27, and a capsize screening value under 1.95. Its masthead sloop rig delivers 420 square feet of sail area for a moderate SA/D of ~17.2 and PHRF ratings around 195–210, prioritizing predictable handling and short-handed coastal cruising over outright speed.
