Grampian 2-34
Description
The Grampian 2-34, also known as the Grampian 34 Mk II, is a modernized racer-cruiser designed by Dutch naval architect Rod van der Stadt and produced by Grampian Marine in Oakville, Ontario, from 1974 to 1977, with around 50 hulls completed before the company's bankruptcy—its molds later sold to yield a handful of Seaforth 34s. Measuring 33 feet 9 inches LOA, 28 feet LWL, 10 feet 6 inches beam, with 12,000-pound displacement and 5,000 pounds of external lead ballast for a sturdy .42 ballast/displacement ratio promoting stability and quick recovery, it features a fin keel drawing 5 feet 3 inches (or optional shoal at 4 feet 3 inches) and skeg-hung rudder paired with a fractional sloop rig offering 480 square feet of sail area—delivering a SA/D of 15.2 and PHRF around 150 for lively upwind performance and coastal racing potential, though its D/L ratio of 280 caps hull speed at 7.1 knots. Built with hand-laid fiberglass for seaworthiness, the aft-cockpit layout includes 6 feet 2 inches headroom, a V-berth forward, U-shaped galley, convertible dinette, enclosed head, and spacious quarter berth for four, with 40-gallon water and 30-gallon fuel tanks. Typically fitted with a 30-hp Yanmar or Perkins diesel inboard, it trades the original Grampian 34's utilitarian charm for sleeker lines and better speed,
