Description
The Gozzard 31 is a semi-custom cutter-rigged pocket cruiser designed by H. Ted Gozzard and introduced in 1990 by Gozzard Yachts in Goderich, Ontario, with around 20 fiberglass examples built using advanced materials for enduring strength, featuring a clipper bow, bowsprit-extended 31-foot-6-inch LOA, 10-foot-6-inch beam, shoal draft of 3 feet 10 inches, and a half-load displacement of 12,000 pounds bolstered by a 44% ballast ratio for reassuring stability in coastal or offshore passages. Its versatile fractional cutter rig deploys up to 607 square feet of sail area—including a 251-square-foot mainsail, 164-square-foot staysail, and optional topsail—for a balanced sail area/displacement ratio suited to efficient light-to-moderate wind performance, powered by a reliable 35-horsepower Westerbeke diesel with 38 gallons of fuel and 32 gallons of water for extended motoring range, while the large cockpit, all-lines-to-cockpit setup, and drop-down transom enhance short-handed handling and safety.
