The Glen-L 25, a versatile 25-foot trailerable cruising sloop designed by Glen L. Witt in the 1970s and offered through Glen-L Marine Designs, exemplifies the firm's expertise in amateur-built plywood sailboats with optional fiberglass adaptations, delivering balanced performance for coastal racing, weekend overnights, or extended ICW/Bahamas hops in a compact, easily towed package. Measuring 25 feet LOA (22'6" LWL) with an 8-foot beam and 3 feet 6 inches draft (fixed full keel with 1,800 pounds lead ballast for a 40% ratio and comfort ratio ~28), it displaces 4,500 pounds dry, enabling trailering behind a mid-size truck (under 6,000 pounds GVW with the optional Glen-L 3800 trailer) and solo launching via standard ramps; the masthead sloop rig carries 320 square feet of sail (SA/D ~17 for responsive handling, hull speed ~6.3 knots with 6–8 knots reaching in 12–18 knots breeze), featuring a tabernacle-stepped aluminum mast for effortless setup and a genoa for light-air versatility. Available in plywood construction (sheet plywood planking over wood framing, sheathed in fiberglass/epoxy for durability; 1,000–1,500 build hours using full-size patterns) or fiberglass one-off molds (for custom yard builds), the design offers two cabin configurations: the Solo (single cabin with aft cockpit, V-berth forward, saloon settees, U-galley, enclosed head, and quarter berth sleeping 4 under 6' headroom) or the Duet/Twin (fore-and-aft cabins with center cockpit, adding privacy via a hanging locker and extra storage for couples or small families).
