Gemini 3200
Description
The Gemini 3200 (1990–1996), Tony Smith’s refined successor to the Gemini 31/3000, marked a decisive leap in performance, comfort, and build quality for Performance Cruising Inc.’s flagship line of trailerable cruising catamarans. Stretching to 32 feet LOA with a 14-foot beam (still marina- and trailer-friendly), it increased displacement to 7,000 lbs. (vs. 6,200 lbs. in the 3000) for better load-carrying and motion comfort, while retaining the signature shallow draft: 18 inches with centerboards and kick-up rudders up, 5 feet down. The hulls were redesigned with finer entries and higher bridge deck clearance (up from 18" to 22") to reduce pounding in chop, and the fractional sloop rig grew to 460 sq ft upwind (with a taller mast and optional square-top main), yielding 8–10 knot reaching speeds in 12–18 knots of breeze. Construction evolved to hand-laid fiberglass with balsa coring in the decks and cabin house, solid glass below the waterline, and vinylester resin in later hulls to combat the blistering that affected some early 3000s. The Silhouette outboard leg-drive (30–35 hp) remained, now with improved sealing and a deeper well for prop immersion. Below, the layout introduced true standing headroom (6'1"), a U-shaped galley with larger fridge, a forward-facing nav station, and two private double cabins (port forward, starboard aft) plus a convertible dinette—sleeping 5–6 in comfort. An enclosed head with shower and hot/cold pressure water became standard. Owners praised the 3200 for balanced handling, ICW compatibility, and weekend-to-Bahamas versatility, with many completing Florida-to-New England coastal hops or Caribbean circuits. Only ~120 hulls were built before the mold was adapted into the bestselling 105M, making the 3200 relatively rare
