Garrett Ior 40 Fr

Description

The Garrett 40 GPR FR is a high-performance IOR (International Offshore Rule) One Ton racer designed by Bruce Farr (Farr Yacht Design, Design #143) and built by Garrett Marine Inc. in the United States starting in 1983. It's a fractional rig (FR) version optimized for offshore racing, emphasizing speed, stability, and handling under the IOR handicap system. Slightly shorter and heavier than Farr's grand prix Design #136 sisters, it features a deep lozenge-shaped rudder, deep fin keel, and low freeboard for agile performance, particularly downwind. Built with race-proven technology, it's engineered for durability in competitive fleets like the SORC (Southern Ocean Racing Conference). Production numbers are unclear, but it was eclipsed by fractional-rig variants in the 1980s One Ton class. Variants include the masthead rig (GPR MH) and a cruiser-racer (CR) version.
