Frisco Flyer
Description
The Frisco Flyer, a pocket-sized blue water cruiser built by Cheoy Lee Shipyard in Hong Kong from 1957 to 1970, evolved from the iconic Nordic Folkboat—designed by Tord Sundén with Cheoy Lee modifications—as a "modified Folkboat" marketed by San Francisco's Richard Reed brokerage, blending teak craftsmanship with early fiberglass for seaworthy adventures in a trailerable 25-foot hull that proved itself with two singlehanded Atlantic crossings in its debut year. Measuring 25'0" LOA (often listed as 26' with overhangs) on a 7'3" beam, 3'6" draft (long keel), and 5,900 lbs. displacement (including 2,400 lbs. encapsulated iron ballast), variants include the Mark I (Pacific Clipper: fractional rig, small trunk cabin), Mark II (larger trunk, masthead rig), and Mark III (doghouse for partial headroom, masthead)—all with a SA/D ratio of ~16 (285 sq ft sail area) for steady 5–6 knot passages in trades, a Comfort Ratio of 29, and a narrow 1.63 Capsize Screening for ocean confidence, though light-air performance demands a 135% genoa. The teak-soaked interior (or fiberglass/wood hybrid in later hulls) sleeps four via V-berth forward, saloon settees, and quarter berth, with a galley (sink, stove, icebox), chemical head, and 5'6" headroom in Mark III—cozy for couples, vast for day sails
