Freedom 35

Freedom 35

Description

The Freedom 35 is an American racer/cruiser sailboat designed by naval architect David Pedrick and built by Freedom Yachts (Tillotson-Pearson Inc. / TPI) in the United States, with production beginning in 1993 and continuing for several years (some sources note it as ongoing into the 2000s in limited form). It features a freestanding carbon fiber fractional sloop rig (no shrouds or stays for simplified handling and maintenance), a self-tacking jib (often on a curved CamberSpar or similar for efficient sheeting), fiberglass construction, and keel options including a deep fin (around 6.5 ft draft with a "whale tail" bulb profile) or shallower wing keel (around 4.5-4.6 ft); the design emphasizes fast, easy short-handed performance, good upwind ability, club racing potential, and comfortable accommodations for two couples with fore and aft cabins (each with standing headroom ~6'1"), a spacious head, and a practical layout belowdecks. Approximately 85 hulls were built, making it a relatively successful model in the Freedom line. (Note: This is distinct from the earlier 1980s Freedom 35 Cat Ketch by Garry Hoyt, a different unstayed cat ketch design with long keel and two masts.)
