Fortune 33

Description

The Fortune 33, a fiberglass sloop designed by Robert Perry and produced by Formosa Boat Building Co. in Taiwan from 1973 to 1977, represents an early entry in Perry's renowned portfolio of seaworthy cruising yachts, blending affordable construction with blue water capabilities in a compact 33-foot package. With a full keel, heavy displacement of around 13,500 pounds, and a clipper bow evoking classic lines, the boat features a spacious interior for its size—accommodating up to six in two cabins with a galley, head, and saloon—while prioritizing stability and offshore performance, evidenced by its moderate sail area-to-displacement ratio of about 16 and ballast of 5,500 pounds in lead. Approximately 50 to 60 hulls were built, often sold through brokers like Bob Lane, and though some suffered from the era's variable Taiwanese quality control (e.g., gelcoat issues or rigging wear), well-maintained examples remain popular among coastal and long-distance cruisers for their tank-like build,
