Fleetwind

Fleetwind

Description

The Fleetwind was designed and marketed by Sears, Roebuck & Co. (Chicago, IL) starting in 1969, as an entry-level daysailer. Featured in Sears catalogs (1969–1970s) and documented on SailboatData.com and Sailboat Guide. A mass-produced fiberglass scow-style dinghy sold via mail-order—typical of Sears' "wishbook" era for affordable outdoor gear. Sears outsourced production (likely to Snark Boats or similar OEMs), emphasizing simplicity for beginners. It's a stable, beachable sailer for lakes and calm bays, with a lateen rig that's easy to step and stow. Over 1,000 units sold; popular for youth sailing but prone to UV degradation on ABS/foam hulls.
