FD 12 (Flying Dutchman 12)

The FD 12 (also known as FD-12, Flying Dutchman 12, or Flying Dutchman FD-12) is a classic bluewater cruiser from the late 1970s/early 1980s era, designed by Eva-M. Hollmann (a German naval architect) and imported to the USA by Willem Eickholt and Associates. It was built by Ta Yang Yacht Building Co. (Taiwan), the same yard behind Tayana models (often branded as Tayana Flying Dutchman 12 in some markets). Only about 25 hulls were produced (1974–1985), making it rare and sought-after among offshore sailors for its heavy, robust construction and comfortable layout. This is a cutter-rigged (or ketch-influenced) full-keel cruiser with positive flotation (unsinkable design), a fine entry for performance, and a long waterline for speed in its class—often described as a "high-performance world cruiser" with a hefty displacement (around 36,000 lbs in some reviews, though SailboatData lists closer to 21,000–25,000 lbs range for similar models; weights vary by fit-out).
