Fastnet Sloop (Fastnet 34)

Description

The Fastnet Sloop is a classic British fiberglass cruising sloop designed by Finot (Jean Marie Finot) and built by Fastnet Marine (UK) from 1973 to 1980. Approximately 42 units were produced, making it a rare, collectible offshore cruiser known for its seaworthy fin keel design, balanced handling, and spacious interior relative to its size. Inspired by the infamous Fastnet Race (1979 disaster influenced safety standards), it was marketed as a reliable coastal/offshore performer for families or short-handed crews, with a masthead sloop rig optimized for British waters. The Fastnet 34 (its full name) features a skeg-hung rudder for protection, moderate displacement for stability, and a layout blending racing responsiveness with cruiser comforts—ideal for Channel crossings or Irish Sea passages.
