Fastnet 45
Description
The LeComte Fastnet 45, designed by Alfred E. Luders and built by the renowned Dutch yard of Adolf LeComte from 1968 to the early 1970s, is a classic fiberglass offshore cruising sloop (or yawl variant) renowned for its seaworthy fin keel with skeg-hung rudder, moderate displacement of 24,800 pounds, and a generous sail area of 850 square feet that delivers balanced performance with a SA/D ratio of around 16.0, making it stable and capable in heavy weather while cruising at 6–7 knots. Measuring 45 feet 6 inches LOA with a 12-foot-5-inch beam and 6-foot-9-inch draft, the Fastnet 45 features hand-laid GRP construction, a balsa-cored deck, and 9,000 pounds of lead ballast for excellent righting capability, accommodating up to 9 berths in a spacious layout with a forward V-berth, saloon settees, U-shaped galley, enclosed head, and optional aft cabin for privacy during long passages. With options for flush deck or extended coach roof configurations, it embodies 1960s blue water elegance, having proven itself in transoceanic voyages like Mexico to Australia/New Zealand, and remains a sought-after vintage cruiser today,
