Farrier F27 (Corsair F-27, F-27 Sport Cruiser)
Description
The Farrier F-27 (commonly called the F-27 Sport Cruiser or Corsair F-27) is a groundbreaking folding trimaran designed by Ian Farrier in 1984–1985. It was the first production fiberglass folding multihull from Corsair Marine (originally Farrier Marine partnership), launching in 1986 as a game-changer for trailerable cruising/racing trimarans. With its patented folding system (amas fold inward to ~8.2–8.4 ft beam for road-legal trailering), it made high-performance multihull sailing accessible—fast, stable, shallow-draft, and easy to launch/store. About 450 hulls were built between 1986 and February 1997 (production peaked in 1991 with 101 boats), before being replaced by the F-28. It's a fractional sloop (rotating mast standard on many) optimized for speed and ease: planes in double-digit winds, hits 15–20+ knots downwind with spinnaker/screecher, and tacks quickly. The interior is compact but functional (V-berth forward, settees, small galley/head; sleeps 2–4 modestly; more daysailer/weekender than full liveaboard).
