Farrier Trailertri 680
Description
The Farrier Trailertri 680 (often just called Trailertri 680 or TrailerTri 680) is one of Ian Farrier's early folding trimaran designs, developed in the late 1970s as an evolution of his pioneering Trailertri series. Plans were copyrighted in 1977, with the first builds around 1977–1978 (prototype elements from earlier Trailertri experiments in 1974–1976). It's a plywood (often glass-sheathed) amateur-build cruiser-racer emphasizing easy trailering, shallow draft, and good performance for coastal/day sailing or light offshore use—Farrier's "folding system" (early version, no hinges in beams) allows the amas (floats) to fold inward, reducing beam to ~8 ft (2.44 m) for road-legal trailering and storage. This design was hugely influential—many were home-built (especially in Australia/NZ/UK), and it paved the way for Farrier's later production models like the Tramp (1980, Australian Boat of the Year) and fiberglass F-series (F-27, etc.). It's still sailed today, with owner groups (e.g., Facebook's Farrier Trimaran 680 & 720 owners) sharing tips, spares, and mods. Active in classic multihull events or as pocket cruisers.
