Description

The Farr 40 One Design (Farr design #383) is the world’s longest-running and most successful high-performance one-design keelboat class, designed by Bruce Farr and launched in 1996. Over 150 hulls have been built by Cookson Boats (NZ), US Watercraft (USA), and Longitud Cero (Spain), with racing continuing globally in 2025. Optimized for grand prix inshore and offshore racing under IRC and one-design rules, it features a light-displacement planning hull, carbon mast, and strict class rules to ensure skill over wallet. PHRF ~0–12; capable of 15–20+ knot reaches in 15–25 kt breeze. The Farr 40 Class Association (farr40.org) hosts World Championships annually, with fleets in USA, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
