Farr 34 (Farr 33)

Description

The Farr 33 (often referred to as the Farr 34 in some European contexts due to rounding its IOR rating to 34 feet) is a classic IOR-rated offshore racing sloop designed by Bruce Farr in 1979 (Farr design #145). Built primarily by Tartan Yachts (USA) and other licensed yards like C&C Yachts and Dehler (Germany), approximately ~100 units were produced through the early 1980s. It was Farr's breakthrough in keelboat design, blending lightweight planning hulls with IOR rule optimization for grand prix racing. Known for its speed, responsiveness, and seaworthiness, the Farr 33 dominated regattas like the Fastnet Race and Southern Ocean Racing Conference (SORC), influencing modern racers with its wide beam and low wetted surface. Today, it's raced in vintage fleets and valued for coastal cruising conversions.
