F-39R
Description
The F-39R (also known as the Farrier F-39R or F-39R Sport Racer) is the higher-performance racing-oriented variant of the Farrier F-39 folding trimaran series, designed by Ian Farrier. It evolved from the base F-39 (which itself was a stretched/enhanced development of the F-36 plans in the late 1990s/early 2000s), with the first F-39 hulls launched around 2007 (as per historical records and Farrier timelines; the F-39R followed closely as a performance sub-variant). It's aimed at experienced builders or yards, emphasizing speed, minimal weight, and racing capability while retaining the third-generation Farrier Folding System™ for trailering (folded beam ~15 ft / 4.57 m) and marina/lock access. The F-39R prioritizes racing performance over full cruising comforts: lighter construction, taller rotating mast (for more sail area and better depowering), more basic interior (often stripped or simplified), and options for aft cabin or aft cockpit layouts. It's still ocean-capable (suitable for bluewater passages with good stability and unsinkability via multiple watertight compartments), but tuned for higher speeds—planing easily, excellent upwind with daggerboard, and aggressive downwind with screecher/asymmetric spinnaker.
