F-3 (Farrier Trimaran)
Description
The F-3 is a compact, high-performance folding trimaran designed by Ian Farrier in the late 1970s as a direct successor to his groundbreaking F-27 (the world’s first production folding trimaran). Launched in 1979, the F-3 was a plans-built boat aimed at skilled amateur builders seeking a fast, trailerable multihull for coastal cruising, racing, and adventure sailing. Though only ~12 units were ever constructed, the F-3 is historically significant: it served as the prototype and testbed for the folding system, beam design, and performance concepts that later defined the iconic F-27 (1980) and the entire Farrier/Corsair trimaran lineage. The F-3 is the grandfather of all modern folding trimarans. It’s not just a boat — it’s a piece of sailing history.
