Evelyn 32
Description
The Evelyn 32 (often specified as Evelyn 32-2 or Evelyn 32) is a high-performance racer/cruiser designed by Bob Evelyn (Robert Evelyn), the same naval architect behind the Evelyn 26 you asked about earlier. Produced from around 1983–1985 by Formula Yachts (Bob Evelyn's own shop in Groton, CT, for the first 7 hulls) and then C&C Yachts (Middletown, RI) for the remainder, about 57 were built. It's a light-displacement "PHRF killer" optimized for club racing (often rating around 96–100 PHRF), MORC/IMS influences, and light-air speed, with excellent upwind performance and planing potential downwind. Owners describe it as fast, responsive, and fun to sail, though it requires crew (7–8 in breeze) and can be demanding in heavy air. There are minor variants (e.g., early "32-1" or half-ton influences, plus a "tall rig" option), but the standard Evelyn 32-2 is the most common. It's a fractional sloop rig (bendy mast with adjustable backstay for tuning), fin keel, spade rudder, and open cockpit layout—more racer than full cruiser, but with basic accommodations for overnighting (V-berth, settees, small galley/head; sleeps 4–6 modestly).
