Ericson 39

Description

The Ericson 39 is a performance cruiser sloop designed by Bruce King and built by Ericson Yachts from 1970 to 1979. This flush-deck model (with a rarer trunk-cabin "B" variant) was conceived during the IOR racing era but evolved into a versatile offshore cruiser, emphasizing speed, stability, and seaworthiness. With its sleek, low-profile lines and heavy displacement, the E39 handles choppy conditions gracefully—owners report comfort in 30-knot winds and 4-ft seas—while offering a spacious interior for coastal or blue water voyages. Approximately 130 hulls were produced, split between ~110 flush-deck versions and just 19–20 of the more traditional 39B with a raised cabin trunk for extra headroom. Its fin keel and skeg-hung rudder provide balanced tracking, making it a favorite for short-handed sailing despite its age.
