Ericson 380

Description

The Ericson 380 is a refined bluewater cruiser designed by Bruce King and built by Pacific Seacraft from 1991 to 1998, with 114 units produced after the company acquired the molds from the defunct Ericson Yachts, featuring an updated masthead sloop rig with aluminum spars and a fully battened mainsail for balanced performance and easy handling under short crews. Its fin-keel hull with spade rudder (or optional shoal-draft bulb keel) measures 37.83 feet LOA, 30.50 feet LWL, and 12.00 feet beam, displacing 15,500 pounds with 6,300 pounds of lead ballast for a ballast-to-displacement ratio of 40.65 percent, delivering 709 square feet of sail area powered by a 38-hp Yanmar 3JH2E diesel engine, 48 gallons of fuel, and 100 gallons of water capacity. With a moderate displacement-to-length ratio of 244 that ensures a comfortable, sea-kindly motion in rough conditions, a comfort ratio of 26.77, and capsize screening of 1.93 affirming its offshore suitability, it sails respectably with a sail area-to-displacement ratio of 18.31—nimble in breezes but patient in light air—while the walkthrough cockpit, though compact to accommodate the aft cabin, offers secure seating and efficient sail controls. The warm teak interior boasts 6 feet 2 inches headroom across a practical layout for two to four: a spacious owner's stateroom aft to port with a 6-foot-6-inch by 5-foot-9-inch double berth, en-suite head access, and ample storage; a forward V-berth cabin measuring 6 feet 4 inches by 5 feet 5 inches with hanging lockers; a starboard U-galley with deep fiddles; and a main saloon featuring an L-shaped dinette to port that converts to a double berth opposite a long settee, all prioritizing ventilation, privacy, and liveaboard functionality for extended voyages.
