Description
The Ericson 32 Mk I, a classic fiberglass cruiser-racer designed by Bruce King and produced by Ericson Yachts from 1969 to 1978 with over 500 units built, embodies the Cruising Club of America (CCA) rule's influence through its elegant lines, featuring long overhangs, a swept-back fin keel with spade rudder, and a masthead sloop rig with a short mast (P: 31.5 ft) and long boom (E: 13 ft) for a reported sail area of 452 sq ft. Measuring 31.58 ft LOA, 24 ft LWL, 9.67 ft beam, and 4.92 ft draft, it displaces 8,800 lbs with 4,000 lbs of encapsulated lead ballast, yielding a moderate D/L ratio of 284 and SA/D of 16.9 for balanced performance—capable of 6 knots upwind in 12 knots of breeze, tacking through 110°, and handling gales up to 60 knots with minimal weather helm, though it heels quickly to 20-30° and struggles in light air due to the low-aspect rig (PHRF around 198).
