Description
The Ericson 27 Tall Rig, a scarce factory variant of the Bruce King-designed fiberglass cruiser-racer produced by Ericson Yachts from 1971 to 1978 with only a handful of the 1,250 total 27s featuring the taller mast (about 2 ft higher than standard), boosts light-air performance modestly through extended rig dimensions (I: 34.5 ft, J: 11.25 ft, P: 30 ft, E: 10 ft) yielding 344 sq ft of sail area for an SA/D ratio of ~15.6—offering slightly quicker starts in zephyrs (3-4 knots with genoa) while retaining the hull's heavy, stable but sluggish traits (D/L 342, comfort ratio 24.4, capsize screening 1.92) with PHRF ~225-230.
