Endeavour 40 Ketch
Description
The Endeavour 40 Ketch is a center-cockpit cruising sailboat designed by Bob Johnson (Robert K. Johnson) and built by Endeavour Yacht Corporation in Largo, Florida, USA, from 1981 to 1985. It was part of a popular series that also offered sloop and cutter rigs, with approximately 185 hulls produced in total across all configurations, making the ketch variant relatively uncommon but appreciated for its balanced sail plan in offshore and shorthanded cruising. Constructed with a fiberglass hull, internal lead ballast, and a full keel or shoal draft options in some cases, the boat emphasizes comfort and spacious accommodations over high performance, featuring a generous beam, large interior volume (including a midships saloon, forward V-berth cabin, aft owner's cabin, and good headroom), tankage for extended cruising (e.g., fuel and water), and a reliable inboard diesel engine (often a Perkins 4-108 50 hp). It is known as a sturdy, "homey" bluewater-capable cruiser with a heavy displacement that provides stability and seakindliness, though it is not particularly fast, with a sail area/displacement ratio around 14.
