Egret 15
Description
The Egret by Sam Devlin (often called the Devlin Egret or Egret 15) is a compact, versatile 15'3" sail-and-oar boat that marked the beginning of renowned naval architect Sam Devlin's design career in the late 1970s. Inspired by traditional dories and sharpies, it's an open adventurer optimized for single-handed use, blending efficient rowing, spirited sailing, and optional motoring. With its stitch-and-glue plywood construction, the Egret is lightweight, trailerable, and forgiving—stable in breezes up to 20 knots yet nimble for beach launches. Over hundreds have been built worldwide, many from kits, earning a cult following for its simplicity, speed (5–6 knots under sail), and joy as a family daysailer or explorer. Devlin himself built the prototype, evolving it from crude sketches into a refined classic that's still in production today.
