Description
The Dufour Safari is a French sailboat designed by Michel Dufour as a compact coastal cruiser-racer, ideal for family day sailing, weekend overnights, and light club racing on lakes or protected waters. It features a fiberglass monohull with a long keel and spade rudder for stable, forgiving handling, a narrow beam for agility, and a masthead sloop rig for straightforward sail management in moderate winds. The design prioritizes simplicity and seaworthiness with a heavy displacement/length ratio for a comfortable ride and a moderate ballast ratio for stiffness in gusts. Introduced in 1972 by Dufour Yachts in La Rochelle, France, the Dufour Safari was Michel Dufour's entry into smaller, trailerable cruisers during the early 1970s fiberglass boom, evolving from his foundational models like the Arpège.
