Dufour 34 Performance
Description
The Dufour 34 Performance is a French sailboat designed by Umberto Felci and Patrick Roséo as a versatile cruiser-racer, balancing competitive performance for club racing with comfortable accommodations for family coastal cruising and short passages on lakes or protected waters. It features a fiberglass monohull with a fin keel (bulb optional) and spade rudder for agile handling and upwind pointing, a wide beam for stability, and a masthead sloop rig for straightforward sail trim and good power in moderate winds. The design emphasizes lightweight responsiveness, a moderate displacement/length ratio for quick acceleration, and a high ballast ratio for stiffness in gusts, with a comfort ratio suitable for weekend overnights. Introduced in 2003 by Dufour Yachts in La Rochelle, France, the Dufour 34 (often called the Dufour 34 Performance) was part of the builder's push into modern performance cruisers during the early 2000s, evolving from Felci/Roséo's collaboration on models like the Dufour 36. It was conceived for the growing cruiser-racer market, offering safe family sailing with racing capabilities, and was succeeded by the updated Dufour 34e in 2008 (sharing the hull but with refinements). Production ran until 2007, with approximately 200 units built, making it popular on the second-hand market in Europe, the Mediterranean, and sporadically in the U.S.
