Dufour 28 (2800) CS Rig
Description
The Dufour 28 (2800) CS Rig is the Club Special racing variant of the popular French coastal cruiser-racer designed by Michel Dufour, optimized for competitive club racing while retaining family-friendly versatility for day sailing and weekend overnights on lakes or protected waters. It features a fiberglass monohull with a deeper fin keel and spade rudder for superior upwind pointing and agility, a moderate beam for stability, and a masthead sloop rig (often taller than standard) for enhanced sail power in moderate to strong winds. The design prioritizes performance with a moderate displacement/length ratio for quick tacking and a high ballast ratio for stiffness in gusts. Introduced in 1977 by Dufour Yachts in La Rochelle, France, the Dufour 2800 CS was a sportier evolution of the standard 2800, targeting racers during the late 1970s fiberglass boom with refinements like a deeper keel for better righting moment. Production ran until 1984, with the CS comprising a portion of the model's over 1,300 units built—Dufour's second most popular sailboat.
