DS 22 / Vision 660
Description
The DS-22 (also known as DS 22) is a Canadian trailerable pocket cruiser/racer, essentially a refined and updated version of the earlier Vision 660 (introduced in 1976). It was designed by renowned naval architect Bruce Kirby (famous for the Laser dinghy) and built by Diller-Schwill Yachts (also known as DS Yachts or Schwill Yachts) in Odessa, Ontario, Canada, starting in 1983. The Vision 660 was originally produced by Simpson Mfg. Co. in Winnipeg, Canada, with fewer than 100 hulls built before the design evolved into the DS-22 (which saw limited production, likely in the low hundreds total across both variants). The DS-22 incorporates modern underbody refinements, a higher-aspect rig, and improved performance while retaining nearly identical hull lines to the Vision 660—sharing the same LOA, LWL, beam, and core specs. It earned a reputation for good looks, sensible layout, stability, trailerability (swing keel/centerboard for shallow draft and easy towing), responsive handling, and versatility as a daysailer, racer, or short coastal cruiser with berths for 4 (V-berth forward, settees, and quarter berths) and a compact cabin with sitting headroom.
