DS 16 (Diller Stills 16)

Description

The Diller-Stills DS 16 is a 16-foot fractional sloop designed and built by Diller-Stills Company in the United States during the 1960s and early 1970s. Constructed primarily of fiberglass with wood trim, it was developed as a durable and easily handled day sailer suitable for both beginners and casual sailors. Estimated production numbers are relatively low—between 400 and 600 units—making surviving examples somewhat uncommon but appreciated for their simple rig and practicality. The DS 16 features a centerboard keel, a self-bailing cockpit, and a light, trailerable hull that allows easy launching and retrieval. With its straightforward rig, stable handling, and forgiving performance, it remains a well-loved example of classic small-boat American design.
