Dn Iceboat

Description

DN Iceboat Overview The DN Iceboat (International DN class) is the world's most popular and numerous one-design ice yacht, renowned for its blistering speed, simplicity, and accessibility. Originating from a 1937 design contest sponsored by the Detroit News (hence "DN"), it won as the "Blue Streak 60" and has evolved into a global racing phenomenon with over 2,000 active members in 20 countries. Unlike water sailboats the DN glides on ice with steel runners, achieving 2–4 times wind speed—up to 60–100+ mph in gusts—making it the fastest "sailing" craft on the planet. It's strictly one-design, home-buildable (plans ~$25 from IDNIYRA), and raced in fleets across North America, Europe, and Asia. With ~5,000+ built since 1937, it's a winter adrenaline rush for soft-water sailors transitioning to frozen thrills, though it demands precise control on glare ice.

Custom sail calculations are not possible for this boat as no I, J, P and E dimensions are available.
