Dehler 31
Description
The Dehler 31 is a German sailboat designed by the acclaimed Dutch firm E.G. van de Stadt as a compact performance cruiser-racer, suitable for family day sailing, weekend overnights, and club racing on lakes or protected waters. Introduced in 1984 by Dehler Yachts in Germany during the mid-1980s fiberglass boom, it was van de Stadt's collaboration with the builder to create an affordable, versatile 31-footer inspired by offshore racing trends, targeting beginners and recreational sailors with its lightweight construction and lifting keel option for shallow drafts. Production ran until 1994, with approximately 100 units built, reflecting Dehler's focus on value-oriented yachts. The design features a fiberglass monohull with a fin keel and spade rudder for responsive handling, a moderate beam for stability, and a fractional sloop rig for efficient sail trim and good light-air performance, with a moderate displacement/length ratio for quick acceleration and a high ballast ratio for stiffness in gusts.
