Dehler 25
Description
The Dehler 25 is a German trailerable sailboat designed by the acclaimed Dutch firm E.G. van de Stadt (design #374) as a compact coastal cruiser-racer, suitable for family day sailing, weekend overnights, and light club racing on lakes or protected waters. Introduced in 1984 by Dehler Yachts in Germany during the mid-1980s fiberglass boom, it was van de Stadt's collaboration with the builder to create an affordable, versatile 25-footer inspired by offshore racing trends, targeting beginners and recreational sailors with its lightweight construction, lifting keel for shallow drafts, and optional water ballast for added stability. Also known as the Dehlya 25 (owner-completion version), production ran until 1995, with approximately 350 units built, reflecting Dehler's focus on value-oriented yachts. The design features a fiberglass monohull with a lifting keel and retractable cassette-type rudder for responsive handling and easy trailering, a moderate beam for stability, and a fractional sloop rig for efficient sail trim and good light-air performance, with a moderate displacement/length ratio for quick acceleration and a high ballast ratio for stiffness in gusts.
