Dehler 22
Description
The Dehler 22 is a West German trailerable sailboat designed by E. G. van de Stadt (design #374) as a compact coastal cruiser-racer, suitable for family day sailing, weekend overnights, and light club racing on lakes or protected waters. Introduced in 1983 by Dehler Yachts in Germany during the early 1980s trailerable boom, it targeted beginners and recreational sailors with its lightweight, easy-to-launch construction and lifting keel for shallow drafts. Production ran until 1990, with approximately 200 units built, reflecting Dehler's focus on affordable, versatile fiberglass yachts inspired by van de Stadt's offshore designs. The Dehlya 22 was a related owner-completion variant with water ballast for added stability. Contemporary reviews praised its "agile handling" and value as a "fun small cruiser," though its lifting keel requires careful management. It's distinct from the later Dehler 22 Domani (2015, Judel/Vrolijk design) and remains a sought-after vintage trailer-sailer.
