DB1 Fractional Sloop
Description
The Dehler DB1 (often simply called the DB1 or DB-1) is a high-performance fractional sloop designed by E.G. van de Stadt and Cees van Tongeren as an International Offshore Rule (IOR) Three-Quarter Ton class racer. First introduced in 1980 by Dehler Yachts in West Germany, it quickly gained a reputation for speed and success on the international racing circuit, with multiple podium finishes in major events like the 1980 Three-Quarter Ton Cup (2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th places). An evolution, the DB2, followed in 1981 with further refinements, including a two-spreader rig, and dominated the 1984 event (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th). In North America, Brighton Yachts (based in Brighton, Ontario, Canada) was licensed to produce the DB1 and the related Sprinta Sport model from around 1980–1982, building a limited run of just five DB1 hulls to meet demand for this proven racer-cruiser. These Canadian-built examples are rare collector's items today, prized for their lightweight construction and offshore racing pedigree.
