Dehler DB 2

Dehler DB 2

Description

The DB 2 (also styled DB-2 or Dehler DB2) is a high-performance West German cruiser/racer designed by E. G. van de Stadt and Cees van Tongeren (Van de Stadt Design #320) as an International Offshore Rule (IOR) Three-Quarter Ton class racer. It was built by Dehler Yachts in Germany from 1981 to 1982 (limited production run). This boat achieved legendary status in racing circles when it dominated the 1984 International 3/4 Ton Cup in Kiel, Germany, with DB-2 designs finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th — an unprecedented sweep. The Positron (a famous DB-2 example) won the event and is still sailing competitively today (e.g., in San Diego fleets). It's praised for being very quick upwind, stiff, and well-balanced, though slower downwind due to smaller spinnakers compared to contemporaries.
