Description
The Dawn 48 (also known as the Kong & Halvorsen Dawn 48 or simply Dawn 48) is a high-quality performance-oriented bluewater ketch designed by renowned Argentine naval architect German Frers and built by Kong & Halvorsen Marine & Engineering Co. Ltd. in Hong Kong (a respected yard known for solid fiberglass construction and teak interiors during the 1980s). This is a semi-custom or limited-production cruiser from the early-to-mid 1980s, emphasizing elegant lines, excellent seakeeping, spacious accommodations, and capable offshore performance. It's praised for its flowing hull shape, good upwind ability, and comfort in a seaway — a "proper" Frers design that's more refined than many heavy Taiwan-built boats of the era, with a reputation for being well-mannered and reliable for extended cruising or liveaboard use. Limited production: built 1983–1985 (small series, not mass-produced; exact number unknown but low dozens at most).
