CT 49
Description
The CT 49 (also known as the Ta Chiao CT-49 or CT 49) is a classic Taiwan-built bluewater cruising sailboat from the early 1980s, part of the CT (Ta Chiao) series renowned for heavy-displacement, overbuilt fiberglass construction and traditional offshore capability. Designed by F. Michael Kaufman and Robert Ladd (Kaufman & Ladd), it was built by Ta Chiao Yacht Building Co. in Taiwan, a yard famous for semi-custom and production cruisers exported worldwide (often with teak interiors, robust layups, and variations like cutter or ketch rigs, center cockpit, aft cockpit, or pilot house). It's similar to the CT-47 (nearly identical hull but with a different stern/transom style — the CT-49 has a more traditional counter stern). The boat is praised for its seaworthiness, spacious accommodations, and "go-anywhere" reputation — a heavy, stable cruiser ideal for liveaboard or long passages (e.g., Pacific or Atlantic crossings), though not optimized for light-air speed or racing.
