Description
The CT 38 (also known as the Ta Chiao CT 38) is a classic Taiwanese heavy-displacement cruising sailboat designed by Alan Warwick and introduced in 1978 by Ta Chiao Enterprises in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Production ran until the early 1980s, with approximately 50–100 units built, many customized for blue water voyages. Inspired by traditional lines but with modern fiberglass construction, it's renowned for its robust build, full keel for seaworthiness, and spacious interior—ideal for couples or small families on coastal or offshore passages. Owners praise its stability and load-carrying capacity (e.g., for circumnavigations) but note it's underpowered in light winds and requires chainplate/deck maintenance in older hulls. Note: There are two distinct CT 38 designs from Ta Chiao—one by Warwick (this model, a traditional cruiser) and another unnamed design (a more modern racer-cruiser).
