CSY 44 P.H. Ketch
Description
The CSY 44 Pilot House Ketch (often abbreviated CSY 44 P.H. Ketch or CSY 44 PH Ketch) is a rare and highly regarded variant of the CSY 44 series from Caribbean Sailing Yachts (CSY). It's one of the most overbuilt and bluewater-capable production sailboats of its era, prized for its solid fiberglass construction (no core in hull or deck), exceptional stability, spacious layout, and all-weather protection from the pilothouse. The pilot house version adds an enclosed steering station (second helm inside) for comfort in bad weather or long passages, while retaining an aft cockpit for open-air sailing. Most CSY 44 Pilot House models were delivered as ketch-rigged (masthead ketch with main and mizzen masts), providing excellent balance, easy shorthanded handling, and versatility in heavy conditions (e.g., drop the main and sail under staysail/jib + mizzen). This rig makes it ideal for offshore cruising, liveaboard use, or extended island hopping. Designed by Peter Schmitt (CSY's in-house designer), it was built in Tampa, Florida, USA, from 1977 to around 1981 (CSY ceased operations shortly after). The Pilot House variant has an aft cockpit and interior steering station. Production Quantities: Limited overall for the CSY 44 series (~200–300 total across variants), with the Pilot House being one of the rarer configurations (dozens at most, often ketch-rigged).
