C&C 40 (Crusader 40)
Description
The Crusader 40 (more formally known as the C&C 40 Crusader) is an early model in the C&C 40 series, a classic Canadian cruiser/racer designed for performance-oriented coastal and offshore sailing. It's renowned for its solid fiberglass construction, balanced handling, good upwind ability, and "big boat" feel in a manageable size — making it popular for club racing, weekend cruising, or longer passages. Owners praise its predictable helm, stability, and all-around performance (especially in moderate-to-strong winds), though it's not ultra-light or a pure racer by modern standards. Designed by C&C Design (the team of George Cuthbertson and George Cassian, founders of C&C Yachts), it was built by Belleville Marine Yards Ltd. (Belleville, Ontario, Canada), which became part of C&C Yachts Limited in 1969. Production ran from 1968 to 1971, with approximately 30 hulls built (a limited early run before later C&C 40 variants evolved).
