Cross 35 Ketch
Description
The Cross 35 Ketch is an extremely rare, plans-only American cruising ketch sailboat designed by multihull pioneer Norman Cross in the early 1980s (plans dated ~1982). Intended for home or professional construction using plywood-epoxy stitch-and-glue methods, it's one of the most obscure in Cross's portfolio, with no documented completed units (estimated 0–1, based on forum mentions and the designer's focus on trimarans). Unlike Cross's folding trimarans, this is a monohull ketch emphasizing simplicity, seaworthiness, and short-handed offshore capability for coastal and blue water cruising. The ketch rig allows balanced sail plans for easy handling, but as an unbuilt design, it remains a theoretical project—potentially blending traditional lines with Cross's lightweight ethos. No known examples exist, making it a "lost gem" for builders inspired by Cross's legacy (e.g., his more realized 34' trimaran).
