Corol 24
Description
The Carol 24 (also referred to as the Carol or 24' Double-Ended Voyager Carol) is a classic pocket bluewater cruiser designed by renowned American naval architect C. W. (Chuck) Paine of C. W. Paine Yacht Design. Introduced in 1979, it's a scaled-down, flatter-deadrise evolution of Paine's popular Frances 26, emphasizing extreme simplicity, seaworthiness, and the philosophy of "making do with less." It's a double-ender (canoe stern) with a long keel, making it exceptionally stable, directional, and capable for its diminutive size — often praised as one of the smallest boats prudent for serious offshore or ocean sailing. Paine himself has called it one of his favorite designs, highlighting its stable, easily driven hull and simple, powerful rig. It's built for self-sufficiency, singlehanded handling, and heavy-weather resilience (self-righting tendency, small self-draining cockpit, raised deck, centerline hatches). Examples have been used for extended living aboard (e.g., 6 years in one case) and coastal/offshore voyages worldwide. Approximately 20 built worldwide (as per designer notes), with examples in locations like Australia (e.g., Queen Bee in Sydney), the UK (e.g., Harriet Rose in Chichester), the US (East Coast, Monterey Bay rentals), and others. No large-scale factory production.
