Concordia 41
Description
The Concordia 41 (also known as the Concordia 41 Yawl) is a classic American wooden yawl, essentially a slightly longer and refined variant of the iconic Concordia 40 (or standard Concordia Yawl). It was designed by C. Raymond Hunt (with Waldo Howland of the Concordia Company) and built primarily by Abeking & Rasmussen (Germany) under commission from the Concordia Company (Massachusetts, USA) from the late 1950s to 1966 (as part of the overall Concordia yawl series from 1938–1966). Of the 103 total Concordia yawls produced, 26 were built as the 41-foot model (with a few also available in sloop rig). It shares the same timeless pre-WWII aesthetic—long overhangs, low freeboard, elegant sheer—and legendary seaworthiness as the 40-foot class, but with increased waterline length, sail area, and interior volume for better cruising comfort and performance. Outstanding features include robust carvel-planked mahogany construction (on oak frames), full keel for superb tracking and stability, comfortable motion in heavy weather, yawl rig for balanced and short-handed sailing, and a spacious, traditional layout (berths for 4–6, full galley, enclosed head, nav area, and good headroom)—making it a proven offshore/coastal cruiser with many examples logging extensive passages.
