Com-Pac 16/2

Com-Pac 16/2

Description

The Com-Pac 16/2 (also known as Com-Pac 16 Mk 2, Com-Pac 16 II, or simply the updated Com-Pac 16) is a popular American trailerable pocket cruiser designed by Clark Mills (a renowned Florida-based naval architect known for small, seaworthy designs) and built by Com-Pac Yachts (Hutchins Co.) in the United States starting in 1984 as an evolution of the original Com-Pac 16 (introduced 1972–1974). The /2 variant introduced key updates including a bowsprit (extending LOA by about 11 inches), a shift to a 7/8 fractional rig (from the earlier 3/4 rig), and minor refinements while retaining the core hull/deck; production continued through the 1980s–1990s (with the overall Com-Pac 16 family exceeding 2,800 hulls total before being superseded by models like the Legacy in 2006), though exact numbers for the /2 are not separately tracked but represent a significant portion after hull #2202. It stands out for its exceptional build quality in a small package—fiberglass construction with a fixed shoal keel (not centerboard in standard form, though some variants exist), compact yet surprisingly roomy V-berth cabin with sitting headroom, easy rigging for single-handing, trailerability (lightweight and shallow draft), and proven seaworthiness for coastal/day sailing or short cruises, earning a loyal following as a "big boat in a small package" with stable handling and good performance.
