CLASSIC 22 (Gloucester 22)
Description
The Classic 22 (also known as the Classic 22 Windley) is a compact American fiberglass trailerable sailboat produced by Classic Yachts Inc. in Chanute, Kansas, starting in 1989. It was essentially a continuation or rebadged version of the Gloucester 22 (built 1983–1988 by Gloucester Yachts Inc.), which itself evolved from the earlier Lockley-Newport LN 23. The design is credited to Stuart Windley, and it was marketed as a practical pocket cruiser for daysailing, weekend overnights, and light coastal use, with strong emphasis on trailerability and ease of handling. Classic Yachts Inc. built only a small number of these (exact count unknown but low, similar to the limited production of their other models), before ceasing operations after a factory fire in 2000. These boats are rare on the used market today but appreciated in trailer-sailer circles for their straightforward design and affordability.
