The Cheoy Lee 44 Ketch (also known as the Cheoy Lee 44 or Perry-designed Cheoy Lee 44) is a classic bluewater cruising sailboat built by Cheoy Lee Shipyard Ltd. in Hong Kong from the late 1970s to the very early 1980s (commonly 1978–1982, with examples like 1978–1980 frequently listed). It was designed by Robert Perry (notable American naval architect who collaborated with Cheoy Lee on several models during this period); production numbers are not precisely documented in public sources but appear relatively limited (a sought-after but not mass-produced classic, with surviving examples occasionally on the brokerage market and a dedicated following via owner associations). Special features include its moderate-displacement hull with fine entry, wineglass transom, and low freeboard for elegant lines and good performance; heavy-duty solid fiberglass construction (stiff with tabbed stringers/bulkheads); availability in aft cockpit or center/midship cockpit layouts; ketch rig (or cutter sloop variants); teak-heavy interior and exterior trim; spacious, sociable layout with excellent stowage (including expansive master stateroom).
